http://www.bookstrand.com/more-than-make-believe

Blurb:

[Siren Allure: Erotic Alternative Romance, M/M, ménage elements not involving the heroes, sex toys, HEA]

When you fall for a fantasy, how do you know it’s more than make-believe?

Travis Collins, a straight college student, finds himself in a financial bind. He’ll do anything legal, including going gay for pay and spending a weekend as “Craig Rocke,” with gay porn star Marston Cougar. Marston tells him to remember it’s all fantasy for the camera even though it feels like more.

Gary Carmeletti, also known as Marston Cougar, has a respectable day job. He started out making gay porn to pay for college. After getting his heart broken, he has a no-dating rule. Now paired with “virgin” Craig, he finds it hard to keep it make-believe when he’s losing his heart.

Gary’s niece needs surgery, and he almost has enough money to quit for good. But now that he feels a true connection with his fantasy costar, will he be able to find a happily ever after when he feels it’s more than make-believe?

Now in print: "Doggy Tales 1"

Monday, June 25, 2012
It always makes me giggle when one of my books makes the transition from e-book to print. :) Yes, the bulk of my sales are in e-book, and yes, I buy most books in e-book format myself as a reader.

Still, I giggle. :)

Today's giggle brought to you by "Doggy Tales 1," my scorching hot collection of tales about the Tampa Bruin pack.

Blurb:

[Siren Classic: Erotic Paranormal Romance, werewolves, shape-shifters, HEA]

Feisty, opinionated women. Hunky, hardheaded, shape-shifting men. In Doggy Tales when the sexual heat cranks up, the fur flies. In these five shape-shifter stories, members of the Tampa Bruin wolf pack (including a panther cousin) find love and claim their mates.

Dog Walk [M/F, contemporary, paranormal, werewolves] Ivan wanted a morning run. Was that too much to ask? When he crosses paths with Lindsey, he knows she holds the leash to his heart.

Doggy Style [M/F, contemporary, paranormal, werewolves] Genna wanted a new start. Jeremy needed revenge. Neither expected to find love. Can Jeremy save Genna when his plan goes terribly awry?

In the Doghouse [M/F, contemporary, paranormal, werewolves] Jeremy knows he screwed up. All he has to do is convince Genna he's sorry.

Puppy Dog Eyes [M/F, contemporary, paranormal, werewolves] Tessa lusts after coworker Scudder. She doesn't know he feels the same, and it's more than puppy love.

A Nearly Cat-astrophic Christmas [M/F, contemporary, paranormal, werewolves] Ivan's cousin, panther shifter Frank, falls for Tessa's cousin, Kaylie.

Note: This is a five-part book in one volume. Three of the tales were previously published elsewhere but have been extensively revised and expanded. Two of the tales are new original work.

A Siren Erotic Romance

(If you purchased the individual stories "Dog Walk" and "Doggy Style," you'll still want to get this volume. Those two stories were completely revamped, including plot changes, and there are two brand new stories as well.

My wet corner of the world right now...

In case you were curious, this is what our local radar looks like. We're about to get hammered by rain again. LOL

"Debby does..." Well, pretty much everywhere.

Source: National Hurricane Center
I can't imagine weather forecasters all over aren't making off-air jokes about the potential for the tropical blob currently in the Gulf of Mexico to become Debby in the next day or so.

The nice thing is, this is a huge drought-buster for the state of Florida. I know Georgia is probably hoping some of this mass ends up sitting over the top of them for a while as well.

It's the price we pay for living in paradise. But it's looking more and more like Debby won't be a monster (I hope!). We don't mind tropical systems as long as they stay on the low end of the scale. People think Florida is this wet place, when the truth is, we get pretty bad droughts in the winter months. If you look at the globe, you'll see we're located in the desert zones. Just because we're surrounded by water doesn't mean we're always "wet." And the fact that so many people move here wanting lush, green lawns (which means using precious water resources) puts a really big dent in our water table.

Rain gooood. Very good. We can do without the wind, but we love the rain.

So I'm spending my Saturday looking at my weather radar channel (which I play muted all day while working and listening to music on my iPod) while I'm working on finishing "Love Slave for Two: Reckoning" to turn in at the end of the month.

I also ordered a BUNCH of goodies this week to give away at The Romance Convention in Dallas in August. If you can, please try to get there, because it will be an EPIC good time.

And I'm going to be putting together a special button you can order (at cost) from either CafePress or Zazzle for my readers to wear at the convention. The first five readers who come up to me that weekend wearing said button will get a special goodie bag from me. :)

Also, due to requests from readers, I've created a chat list for my readers. No promo, please, but feel free to discuss other books if you want. It doesn't replace my email announcement newsletter, but people have been asking me for a chat list and I finally got around to creating it. LOL

Privately, she’s never felt more alone.

Writing: Greater meaning inside? Um, suurrree...

Saturday, June 16, 2012
Yeah, the picture basically says it all. *LOL* I can't tell you how many classes I sat in during high school and college, trying to decipher meaning from a story. As a student, I often wondered if the teacher was full of bullpucky.

As a writer, I can honestly admit that usually, when I say the curtains are blue (if I even go so far as to say it) then that means I just happened upon blue in my mental movie projecting the words onto the page. It might just as easily have been pink or red or vertical blinds instead of curtains.

I rarely set out telling a story thinking to myself, "Now, the symbolism and theme of this story are going to be..."

Yeah, no.

I want to tell a yarn. I want to hold the reader's attention for a couple of hours or longer. I want the reader to close the book feeling like they got their money's worth, and wanting to get my next book. (I think it was Mickey Spillane who is credited with saying the first chapter sells your book, the last chapter sells your next book.) Sure, after the fact, I can sometimes go back in my rewrite and see things that I can enhance, but they are usually points that emerged organically as part of the storytelling process.

I try not to put in a lot of extra filler. Alfred Hitchcock said something to the effect of movies are life with the dull parts cut out. I am not a reader who likes a lot of extraneous details, and as a writer, I tend to avoid them. I might want to set a mood, but I rarely get overblown unless there's a deliberate reason for me to do so.

There are plenty of artsy-fartsy writers out there who look down their noses at commercial writers. Many of those people are unpublished writers. You know what? That's fine. They can look down their noses at me all they like. They aren't my audience. I write first for myself. If I'm happy with it, then I can pretty much guarantee an audience for that book will follow. I write because it's who I am as well as what I do. I'm just lucky enough I get to do what I love. And I write to entertain, to tell a story. If someone wants to read a deeper message into something I've written, they can knock themselves out.

Sometimes, however, a cigar is just a cigar. And the damn blue curtains might not have even crossed my mind when writing the scene, it was just something that flowed onto the page in the process. So don't stress yourself trying to come up with a deeper meaning.

I can tell you from experience, most authors are just happy that you enjoyed the book.

Teaser: Blurb for "Love Slave for Two: Reunions (Book 3)"

Friday, June 15, 2012
Even though I don't have a cover yet, I thought y'all might enjoy seeing the blurb for book three in my Love Slave for Two series (coming July 30th from Siren-BookStrand).

Nevvie and Thomas think Tyler is nuts for coming home with an RV and an even crazier plan to travel from Florida to Seattle. What could be better than a family vacation with two kids and Tyler’s father?

Perhaps finally putting the ghosts of Nevvie’s past to bed for good as she seeks answers to who she is.

She begins to seriously doubt the wisdom of their journey as mishaps seemingly pile up by the mile. And when a tropical storm and medical emergency add to the mix, she considers pulling the plug. By the time they reach Seattle, she endures almost more than her sanity can take, including a ride in a patrol car, a stowaway, and non-consensual use of handcuffs.

And that’s before she’s given her mother a piece of her mind.

Through it all she’ll discover that sometimes the longest journeys, no matter how trying, are the ones that bring you closest to family—and home.

Latest Updates...

Thursday, June 14, 2012
Wow, it's been a crazy few weeks around Chez Dalton. Good crazy, but still crazy. (Eh, crazier.)

I moved my entire backlist of previously released books over to Siren-BookStrand once the contracts expired and the rights were returned to me, and we've been in an edit/release cycle. Add to that I've been playing catch-up like mad with my writing, and getting ready to teach at The Romance Convention in Dallas in August, and I don't know if I'm coming or going. :)

Okay, quick run-down on my recent releases, in case you missed any:

Coming from Siren-BookStrand in the next couple of months:
  • Love Slave for Two: Reunions (Book 3) (July 30)
  • Good Will Ghost Hunting: Demon Seed (Book 1)
  • Good Will Ghost Hunting: Hell's Bells (Book 2)
  • More Than Make-Believe
  • Domme by Default
So you don't miss a single Siren-BookStrand release, go to my author page there and click the Notify Me link at the top of the page. They'll send you an email as soon as one of my books is uploaded for pre-order.

And you do NOT have to wait until these books hit the respective third-party outlets like Kindle, Nook, Kobo, etc. either. If you have a Kindle, Siren has great instructions (and I linked to them all HERE) on how to get the books sent directly to your Kindle by setting up your account with your Kindle's email address. If you have a different device, buy the format you need and just transfer it to your device.

What's my current status on WIPs? I'm working on "Love Slave for Two: Reckoning (Book 4)", the next books in the Triple Trouble series, and "The Denim Dom" (Tony's story). Also, working on "Spider Bight (DSMC Book 3)" and a couple of others. I always have more than one project in the mix, and there are even more WIPs than that in the queue. Those are the ones screaming at me the loudest right now though. LOL

So there's a quick update for everyone in case you missed the news. Don't forget, you can add your email address to the Easy Email Stalkage box over in the top of the right-hand column and an update will be emailed to you when I update my website. Also, you can click on the Newsletter link to subscribe to my email newsletter (announcement only, Yahoogroups).

Thanks! :) Now I'm crawling back to my writer's cave to get some more work done. :)

"Domme by Default" returning soon!

Wednesday, June 13, 2012
I received word yesterday that Siren is scheduling their release of "Domme by Default" for August. WOOT! So if you haven't read this one yet, don't worry, it's coming back.

For those of you who aren't familiar with "Domme by Default," it's a novella tied in with "The Reluctant Dom" by the character Tony. Tony is getting his own book (in progress now) called "The Denim Dom."

Thanks!

Sneak Peek: "Love Slave for Two: Reunions (Book 3)"

Tuesday, June 5, 2012
Here's a little sneak peek (unedited, so please forgive typos) from the next book in my "Love Slave for Two" series, coming sometime in July. The set-up is that Tyler has taken control of the wheel of the RV despite Tom and Nevvie wanting him NOT to drive. What Tyler doesn't realize is that while he was in the bathroom, Nevvie and his dad, Andrew, stepped out to grab some groceries.

--

Tyler lost track of time as he drove. The nice thing about being a writer was he could work while he drove, using the time to plot out his next book in his head. Which was a lot more work than he’d done in reality.

The idea he’d gotten in Kansas City hadn’t solved all his problems with the plot. Now if he could just work out the rest of the kinks, maybe he could get the book turned in on time.

When he glanced at the clock on the dash, he realized it’d been thirty minutes since they’d hit the interstate and he had yet to see Nevvie. Usually, she would wait until the kids were engrossed in the movie and then join Tom up front while he drove.

He fought the urge to pout over that. She must be tired. Perhaps she’s napping. He turned down the radio. “Nevvie,” he called out, “I really am feeling a bit peckish. Could I trouble you for a sandwich and a bottle of water?”

He felt his irritation grow when he called for her again, and then a third time and still no response. He was about to really raise the roof when he heard the door to the bedroom open. Thomas stumbled out, holding on to the galley counter as he made his way up front where he finally dropped into the passenger seat. He looked like he’d just woke up. His hair was disheveled.

“Ty, what in hell are you hollering about out here?”

“Well, I’ve called out for Nevvie to see if I could get a sandwich and she’s ignoring me. Is she really that cross with me over me driving?” Tyler glanced at Thomas and didn’t understand the odd look on his face. “Thomas, what’s wrong?”

He did look a bit more awake now. “Ty, I’m gonna ask you what might seem to be a really stupid question, but I want an answer anyway, okay?”

“Of course, love. What is it?”

Thomas arched an eyebrow. “Where the hell are Nevvie and Dad?”

[Ménage and More: Erotic Consensual BDSM Ménage a Trois Romance, M/F/M, public exhibition, spanking, flogging, whipping, sex toys, HEA for M/F]

Love hurts…if you’re lucky.

Kaden’s dying, but before he goes he has one problem to solve—he must ask his oldest and dearest friend, Seth, to take over as Dom and Master to his beloved wife, Leah.

Seth has always seen himself as the perpetual screwup and Kaden as the strong and steady one, so his friend’s request rocks his world. He also knows there’s no way he can refuse Kaden this.

Now Seth finds himself immersed in a role he’s far from comfortable with—inflicting physical pain to provide emotional comfort to the woman he’s secretly loved for years. Can he deal with his crushing grief over the impending loss of his oldest friend and still learn the skills he must master in time to become The Reluctant Dom?

Adult Excerpt:

Seth spent a restless night alone. The memory of the feel of Leah’s mouth on him kept him hard for hours despite jerking off twice.

Moron. Go sleep with her.

He tried to roll over and go to sleep. By the time he stumbled out of bed the next morning, he didn’t feel like a run. He barely felt like getting out of bed, but the thought that he’d be taking Leah alone to the club that night made further sleep impossible.

He stepped into the shower after he shaved. Sure enough, a few minutes later, she joined him.

“What is that?” He pointed to the can of shaving gel and disposable razor in her hand.

“I’m going to shave you.” Her matter-of-fact tone possessed more than a little “Duh!” factor.

“Um, sweetie, I appreciate that, but already done. See?” He tapped his stubble-free chin.

She rolled her eyes. “No, Sir. I’m going to shave your body.”

“What?” He stepped back, bumping against the cool tile wall.

“Don’t you want to look your best tonight?”

“Okay, Leah. Time out, or red light, or stop sign, or what the fuck! Huh?”

She looked at him as if explaining to a child. “We’re going to the club tonight. You need to look your best.” She stepped forward. “I shave Master all the time.”

Well, come to think of it, he had noticed Kaden was a little lacking in the body hair department from the hips up, but he hadn’t really put much thought into that, or what lay below Kaden’s belt. It wasn’t exactly on Seth’s top-ten list of fantasy thoughts, that was for sure.

“Why?”

“Because it looks nicer.” She reached down with her free hand and trailed her fingers along his shaft, which immediately responded, dang traitor. “And, if you use a cock ring, it won’t get caught in your hair—”

“Whoa!” He grabbed her hand and tried to shift his hips away from her. “Holy fucking shit, you’re going to shave my balls?”

“Yes. Besides, it’s better for me. I don’t have to keep spitting out hair.”

Wormhole. He was back to the wormhole theory. “Honey, I don’t mean to hurt your feelings, but I’m not sure—”

“Please, Sir?” She turned the puppy-dog eyes on him.

“Aw, fuck no. Leah, babe, come on. Cut me some slack.”

She pressed her naked body against him. “Please, Sir? I just want you to look your best.”

He wouldn’t be looking his best. That was still probably a month or two away at least, provided he kept up a workout schedule of some sort. He still looked like a pig next to Kaden. Although, compared to many of the people who were regulars at the club, he was stick-thin.

Those freaking lethal green eyes of hers. She’d figured out how to twist him around her finger years ago, nearly from the first moment they met.

She damn well knew it, too. Now she used them to her full advantage.

He closed his eyes and fought the nausea churning in his gut. “You aren’t shaving my legs, right? That’s just freaking creepy.”

She laughed. “No, silly.” She gently pulled him away from the wall. “Just stand here and spread your legs a little. I’ll do everything.”

He refused to open his eyes. “You know, I’ve already been circumcised. Don’t go taking any more off me.”

She laughed again. “Master will tell you I do a very good job.”

“This isn’t exactly a conversation two guys have over coffee. ‘Hey, dude, how well does your wife shave your balls?’”

She laughed, loud and hard.

Okay, well at least got that daily mission out of the way.

When she quit laughing she started on his back, which only took a minute. Not that he’d ever paid much attention, but he must not have been very hairy back there. He stood quietly while she lathered his chest and shaved him, working her way south.

He nervously gulped but still stiffened as she slowly took her time and shaved his groin and sac. He barely dared to breathe. She apparently had total confidence in her skills.

When she finished she rinsed him off, then dropped to her knees again and ran her tongue and lips over his throbbing shaft.

Okay, this made it worth it. No doubt about it. He leaned against the wall and gently fisted her hair as she went down on him. The feel of her fingers over his now nekkid balls felt different, and not in a bad way.

One more adjustment he’d get used to. If she could keep her pussy shaved—and apparently, that was exactly what she did—he supposed he could let her do this.

He’d had more almost-sex in the past few days than he’d had real sex in the past few years. And the best sex—almost or not—of his life, to boot.

A few new reviews to crow about! :)

"Red Tide" received 4 stars from The Romance Reviews:

"The story moved at a smooth pace with not a single stray thread. There were times where I thought Ms. Dalton missed a point only to have her bring it up later in the story to connect all the dots. The ending is suspenseful and just how I liked it. I hope this means there will be a sequel. I recommend this book to romance lovers who enjoy friends to lovers theme with a spice of suspense."

"Contractual Obligation" received 4 stars from The Romance Reviews:

"There was not a single extra scene in this book. This book was edited to perfection. The story flowed well and every character had a purpose. I highly recommend this story to ménage lovers who want their cake and eat it too."

"The Reluctant Dom" received 5 stars from Selena-Lost-in-Thought:

"I have never read such a heart wrenching story. There has only been one other series (possibly two) that has provoked so many tears from me. I held my hubs a little tighter as we slept that night. The thought of ever losing him is just to much to bare. While there were definitely some blush-worthy/jaw dropping moments while reading this book, I promise you it is well worth the read."

"Out of the Darkness" received 4.75 stars from Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews:

"I can’t say enough good about this book!! I enjoyed it sooo much. I’m the world’s biggest chicken, but I love stories like this. I am a huge fan of great ghost stories!! This one doesn’t disappoint!! Just when you think you have it all figured out another twist pops up and shocks you!! I put this one up there with classics like the Shining and Amityville. I hope you guys enjoy this one as much as I did!!"
